Planting Seeds for Change Through a Bequest

When Susan and Bill Lamkin sat down to discuss the impact they wanted to have through their estate, a bequest to create an endowment for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford was the natural choice.

Susan began her relationship with Packard Children’s Hospital in 1988. She and Bill had just moved to the Bay Area. To make friends in their new community, Susan began volunteering with the Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary, which has a long history of supporting Packard Children’s Hospital. Susan is one of nearly 1,000 Auxiliary members who give their time and treasure to help our hospital provide extraordinary care to children and their families.

In addition to the many hours she spends as a volunteer managing the various aspects of the Allied Arts Guild property, Susan serves as chair of the Auxiliaries Endowment Committee. The Auxiliaries Endowment was created in 1999 through bequests and continues to grow by outright gifts and additional bequests from Auxiliary and community members. Those gifts are invested for growth, and the endowment’s annual payout serves as a catalyst for launching programs across our hospital.

Today, the Auxiliaries Endowment provides more than $1 million annually in support of Packard Children’s Hospital. Bill and Susan were so impressed by the impact of the Auxiliaries Endowment and Packard Children’s Hospital that they created a bequest that will establish a new Auxiliaries Endowed Fund. The fund will provide support for pediatric ophthalmology. “I love the idea that our bequest will create an enduring gift that will continue to grow,” says Susan.
